Cult Classic: Watchmen

WATCHMEN RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Movie Adaptations of the Watchmen Characters

I saw the movie first, and became an instant fan. I love comic book movies that are done well (Iron Man, Spider-Man, Nolan's Batmans).

The new Watchmen movie is the newest addition to this high profile list. The casting was nearly perfect, the sets were amazing, and all of the directing was good. Huge budgets show, especially in movies such as this one, which took a long time to make, and a lot of resources. You can see it when you see the montages in the beginning, which I loved, since it was really creative and helped set the mood. The music was amazing. It really made the movie a full on epic, and helped the whole experience move along quite nicely.

As for the directing, I thought it was very well done. Zack Snyder (His Wiki) did 300 also, and I could see a lot of similarities. I read 300 also after watching the movie and thought that it was slightly less well done, but to Snyder's credit, it was more of a script problem. 300 was painfully short in comic form and I think the script was much less workable. Watchmen allowed Snyder to do different things, and it really gave him a better vision as a director to construct shots. 300 was this adrenaline rush mainly aimed towards adolescent cravings that pretty much just made me want to grab a sword and start training. Watchmen was a great movie because, like the comic, it made me think and it made me feel for the characters and the world.

Overall, Watchmen, to me, is a commentary on the state of the world and a brilliantly written timepiece that will stay relevant as long as humans exist. In the end, the sacrifice that Ozymandias/Adrian Veidt makes is very accurate to what this world is like. Unless we have a common enemy, there really is no solution to conflict. Orson Scott Card acknowledges this in his Enderverse also.

Both the movie and comic book are amazing, and I'd recommend both of them to anyone (above age 16), since they are both of such high quality and are exemplary of their respective mediums.
